A Natural History Water Adventure

                          Meet The Wildlife

Join us on board the vessel "Ceilidh II" for a natural
history water adventure where you'll see the scenic beauty surrounding Sequim Bay and the Strait of
Juan De Fuca.  You'll come to realize why John Wayne loved the area so much; cruising his yacht "Wild Goose" and anchoring her in Sequim Bay.  Eventually his family donated the land to the Port of Port Angelesto build a marina!

It is here, in Sequim Bay that your journey begins.......

The Sequim/Dungeness area was the ancient home of the Jamestown S'Klallam Indian tribe.  Many of their descendants continue to live in the Jamestown area along the shore.

We will visit Protection Island National Wildlife refuge.  Look closely and you may see Harbor Seals, Elephant Seals, Dolphins and Orcas!  Over 70% of the gulls in Puget Sound nest on Protection Island.  You may also see the nesting sites of many different species of birds.  Rhinoceros Auklet, Cormorants, Tufted Puffins and Bald Eagles may all be seen.

The 5 1/2 mile long Dungeness Spit is one of the longest natural sand spits in North America.  As we cruise the spit, we will pass the Dungeness National Wildlife refuge and see the wide variety of wildlife in their natural habitat.  We'll view historic landmarks such as the New Dungeness Lighthouse, preserved for your enjoyment and education.  Huge ships and tankers journeying to and from Seattle may also be seen as we cruise the area.  Trident nuclear submarines frequently come into these protected waters to resupply from a submarine tender.

Once you're ready, we'll get going..........
